The Justice & Peace Commission in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Middlesbrough aims to:
- Raise awareness of issues around justice, peace and integrity of creation (JPIC).
- Support local groups around the Diocese to be active campaigners.
- Arrange meetings, events and activities to discuss JPIC issues.
- Work with partners such as CAFOD and Pax Christi on issues of mutual interest.
We were founded by Fr. Tony Storey (1919-2007) and Mary Thompson (d.2001) and we continue to work to build up a world where God’s justice and peace reigns. Some of the key issues we are involved in include: conflict and reconciliation, nuclear weapons, housing and homelessness, the welfare state, supporting refugees and asylum seekers, overseas development and protection of the environment.
